HookWise
Remove silences and fillers

Remove silences and "um"s automatically so every clip gets to the point

Conversation recordings are full of pauses and filler words. HookWise finds the pauses in the audio and the fillers in the per-word transcript, then cuts each set in one pass.

Why the cuts sound clean

1

Cuts land between words

Pause cuts keep 120 ms on each side, and filler cuts follow the start and end time Whisper recorded for each word.

2

Silences and fillers together

Long pauses and words like "um", "uh" or "hmm" go in two clicks, without scrubbing the timeline second by second.

3

Then clean up the voice

Once the gaps are gone, run Enhance Speech in the same editor for a clearer voice.

How HookWise finds pauses and filler words

Two passes, two methods

Remove pauses and Remove filler words are separate buttons in the Audio tab, and they work differently. Remove pauses listens to the audio itself. It finds every stretch quieter than -35 dB that lasts longer than half a second, cuts it out, and keeps 120 milliseconds on each side so the speech does not sound chopped.

Remove filler words reads the Whisper transcript. It looks for sounds such as "um", "uh", "erm", "hmm" and the Indonesian "eee" and "anu", and cuts each one at the start and end time Whisper recorded. HookWise tells you how many it removed, and both passes can be undone with Cmd or Ctrl+Z.

When to use it and how to check it

Run it on talking-head footage: podcasts, interviews, online classes and webinars recorded with one or two mics. Clips with music or room noise under the voice may keep some pauses, because the background stays louder than the silence threshold.

The result shows up on the timeline as new, shorter clips, so you can see every place HookWise cut. Play it through once. A speaker sometimes pauses on purpose before a punchline, and you may want that beat back. Use Undo, or drag the clip edge on the timeline. After cutting, Enhance Speech and the Smooth fades at clip cuts option can make the joins sound softer.

What it needs

Both passes run offline on your computer and need no Gemini key, so they work on every plan. Pause removal works straight from the audio. Filler removal needs a Whisper transcript first, because it relies on per-word timestamps. A transcript imported from a plain .srt file only has times per line, so filler cuts based on it are less precise.

The filler list is built in. It covers common filler sounds in Indonesian and English. Words that are only fillers in context, such as "so" or "like", stay in. Cut those by hand on the timeline when they bother you.

Frequently asked questions

Not for pauses: Remove pauses reads the audio directly. Remove filler words does need a Whisper transcript, because it cuts by per-word timestamps.

Yes. There is no upload-length limit because everything is processed on your computer, so a 2-hour episode can be tightened before you clip it.

Silence removal reads the audio, and filler removal reads the transcript. Auto cut splits the video when the picture changes scene. Both live in the editor and can be used together.

It cuts every pause longer than half a second. Play the result, then use Undo or drag a clip edge on the timeline to bring back a dramatic pause.

Common filler sounds in Indonesian and English, such as "eee", "ehm", "anu", "hmm", "um", "uh" and "erm". The list is built into the app.

No. HookWise only changes the cut points in your reel. The source file stays as it was, and Undo brings the cut parts back.
